The assistant is not confined to your private chat. Mention it in any channel or direct message and it answers there, in front of the whole team.
Asking it something
- Go to any channel or DM
- Type
@ModulawAIfollowed by your question - Press Enter
@ModulawAI what does Section 6 of the ACJA say about arrests without a warrant?
You will see a typing indicator, then the answer streams into the channel as a message from ModulawAI. It appears in the channel itself, in line with the conversation — not tucked into a thread. Everyone reading the channel sees the question and the answer as they happen.
That has a practical consequence worth planning around: a long research answer lands as a long message in the middle of the channel. In a busy general channel that is disruptive. See the guidance below.
One mention, the right specialist
@ModulawAI is the only handle you need. It routes to the right specialist automatically — case law search, statutes, document analysis, drafting — based on what you asked. There is no separate handle to remember per capability.
What you can ask
Anything you would ask in a private chat.
| Kind | Example |
|---|---|
| Legal research | @ModulawAI find Nigerian cases on estoppel per rem judicatam |
| Statute interpretation | @ModulawAI explain Section 131 of the Evidence Act and its application to criminal trials |
| Case analysis | @ModulawAI check whether the principle in that case has been contradicted since |
| Drafting | @ModulawAI draft a demand letter for breach of contract in a construction dispute |
| Quick reference | @ModulawAI what’s the limitation period for land recovery actions in Lagos State? |
Giving it case context
Reference a case in your message with # and the assistant answers against that matter rather than in the abstract. This is the difference between a generic answer and one that accounts for what is actually on the file.
Following up
Mention it again in the same channel to continue:
@ModulawAI expand on the third point about burden of proof
Be explicit in follow-ups about what you are referring to. In a channel where colleagues are also talking, “expand on the third point” is clearer than “and the other one”.
Making it useful to the team
- Pin the good answers. When the assistant produces research the team will come back to, pin the message. Pinned messages are reachable from the channel’s pinned panel and turn a one-off answer into a reference.
- Reply in a thread to discuss it. The answer lands in the channel, but you and colleagues can thread off it to debate the point without cluttering the main flow.
- Let juniors watch. A senior lawyer asking a well-framed research question in a shared channel teaches two things at once — the law, and how to frame the question.
Where to ask
- Create a dedicated research channel. Because answers land inline and can be long, a
legal-researchchannel keeps heavy sessions out of general channels. - Use the case channel for case questions. The answer then sits with the rest of that matter’s discussion.
- Use a DM for anything sensitive. A channel answer is visible to every member. If the question itself reveals strategy, ask privately.
Who sees what
| Where you ask | Who sees the exchange |
|---|---|
| Public channel | Anyone in the workspace who joins it |
| Private channel | Channel members only |
| Direct message | You and the other person |
| Group DM | All participants |
The assistant answers within the boundaries of where it was asked — it will not surface something from a private channel into a public one.
One caveat: a client conversation is shared with the client. Do not mention the assistant in a client channel expecting an internal answer.
